RIP to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson...

What else can I say?  He was the greatest entertainer to ever grace a stage.  Without him, NONE of these modern artists who I blog about would exist.  Our condolences go out to the Jackson family, and Michael - we will never, ever forget you.  Gone too soon.

The fourth season of gospel talent competition Gospel Dream premiered tonight on the Gospel Music Channel.  The show features judges Michelle Williams, J. Moss and Mitchell Solarek, and hosts Kimberly Locke (American Idol contestant) and Mike Kasem.  It is a six-week long series airing this summer at 10PM on GMC.  According to the press release, “the winning artist will receive record and music video exposure, among other prizes.”  I unfortunately do not get this channel, so hopefully I get to see my girl Michelle judging this on YouTube!

Posted on 24 Jun 2009 at 9:33pm

MTV and Jamie Foxx have joined forces in the development of a new comedy show that has been hailed as “the next generation of ‘In Living Color’”  Not much detail has been given yet, aside from it being a sketch comedy show executive produced by Jamie Foxx.  It should be entertaining, though.  We’ll see!

Jill Scott talks motherhood, music

In an interview with Essence.com, Jill Scott revealed that she is now a single-mother after calling off her engagement to fiancé John Roberts.  She says the relationship simply didn’t work out, but that they have remained friends so that they can co-parent their son, Jett.  Jill also disclosed that she is already working on an album that could be released later this year. Let’s hope so!  I need some new music from Jilly!

Michael Jackson video game?

Michael Jackson video game?

Posted on 23 Jun 2009 at 2:05pm

According to G4TV, there are plans underway for a Michael Jackson video game to come to Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s Playstions 2 and 3.  No word on what the concept is for the game, but it is being developed by Michael’s company, MJJ Productions.  I would imagine a Michael Jackson video game would include dancing and possibly singing.  So keep your eyes out for this new project from the King of Pop!  Anybody remember Moonwalker?

“Why Did I Get Married Too” begins filming

Posted on 23 Jun 2009 at 12:43pm

Janet Jackson will be returning to the big screen in the sequel to Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married?, which began filming today.  Ms. Jackson was not present today, (she is probably still in New York City after attending Beyoncé’s concert last night!), but Perry promised the return of the original cast if he were to film the sequel.  Hopefully, fellow musician Jill Scott will also return for the sequel, which is poised to be yet another great Tyler Perry film.

Another new social networking service is among us - iggli.  This is an invitation service that allows concert-goers and sports fans to instantly invite friends to buy tickets to an event.  If you are familiar with “iLike” on Facebook, it’s seems to be the same thing except it is not exclusive to Facebook.  iggli can be placed on any webpage, and Jason Mraz is the first major artist to utilize the technology by placing it on his official site in support of his Gratitude Café Tour.  For more on iggli, click here.  For Jason Mraz tour dates and ticketing, click here. (I’m going August 7th at Jones Beach!)

Follow Maroon 5 on Twitter!

The members of Maroon 5 have joined the Twitterverse, so if you’re a fan make sure you follow them!  However, all five of them share the Twitter so it’s a tad bit difficult to tell who is tweeting what.  But I suppose they will release that eventually and begin to specify?  Who knows. But here’s their link: @Maroon5
