RIP to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson…

What else can I say?  He was the greatest entertainer to ever grace a stage.  Without him, NONE of these modern artists who I blog about would exist.  Our condolences go out to the Jackson family, and Michael - we will never, ever forget you.  Gone too soon.

Jill Scott talks motherhood, music

Jill Scott talks motherhood, music

Posted on 23 Jun 2009 at 5:15pm

In an interview with Essence.com, Jill Scott revealed that she is now a single-mother after calling off her engagement to fiancé John Roberts.  She says the relationship simply didn’t work out, but that they have remained friends so that they can co-parent their son, Jett.  Jill also disclosed that she is already working on an album that could be released later this year. Let’s hope so!  I need some new music from Jilly!

Michael Jackson video game?

Michael Jackson video game?

Posted on 23 Jun 2009 at 2:05pm

According to G4TV, there are plans underway for a Michael Jackson video game to come to Nintendo’s Wii and Sony’s Playstions 2 and 3.  No word on what the concept is for the game, but it is being developed by Michael’s company, MJJ Productions.  I would imagine a Michael Jackson video game would include dancing and possibly singing.  So keep your eyes out for this new project from the King of Pop!  Anybody remember Moonwalker?

“Why Did I Get Married Too” begins filming

Posted on 23 Jun 2009 at 12:43pm

Janet Jackson will be returning to the big screen in the sequel to Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married?, which began filming today.  Ms. Jackson was not present today, (she is probably still in New York City after attending Beyoncé’s concert last night!), but Perry promised the return of the original cast if he were to film the sequel.  Hopefully, fellow musician Jill Scott will also return for the sequel, which is poised to be yet another great Tyler Perry film.

New Jill Scott release tomorrow?

New Jill Scott release tomorrow?

Apparently!  I can’t find much any information about it aside from the title.  Several websites list it’s release date as 12/31/2009, except for Target, which has it lists the release date as tomorrow on their website.  The release looks to be a remix collection, titled The No. 1 Lady Remixed, based on Jill Scott’s new series, The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency on HBO.  I am going to try and contact Jill’s label, Hidden Beach Recordings, to try and find out more about this because I love me some Jill.

Mary J. Blige responds to autotune criticism

Mary J. Blige responds to autotune criticism

Posted on 12 Jun 2009 at 8:13pm

As you should know, Jay-Z and Mary J. Blige released new singles last week.  Jay’s “D.O.A. (Death of Autotune)” set the industry on fire as he slammed musicians for “T-Pain-ing too much” with the excessive use of autotune in new music.  Meanwhile, Mary J. Blige’s fiesty new single, “The One,” features the Queen of Hip-Hop/Soul singing with some autotune!  Now, Jay and Mary have always seemed to be good friends, but could this put some bad blood between them?

Personally, I don’t think so.  Blige told Hot 97’s Angie Martinez that it’s simply an effect that she tried out.  In response to criticism, she said “To each his own. Do what you do, because I do what I do.”

From how I see it, Jay was only coming for the people who constantly use autotune - not for artistic purposes like Kanye or Mary, but simply because they have no other choice.  Mary shouldn’t even need to feel offended. So everybody else needs to chill.

Toni Braxton, Ne-Yo to perform @ Reggae Sumfest

Toni Braxton, Ne-Yo to perform @ Reggae Sumfest

Posted on 12 Jun 2009 at 7:14pm

Jamaica’s Reggae Sumfest has just got itself two new performers!  R&B veteran songstress Toni Braxton, and singer-songwriter Ne-Yo have been added to the line-up for this concert series taking place July 19-25 in Montego Bay’s Catherine Hall.

Ne-Yo is currently promoting his latest album, Year of the Gentleman, while Toni is hard at work prepping her new album which is said to be complete.

Previously announced performers for the Sumfest include R&B’s latest sensation, Jazmine Sullivan, as well as Damian Marley and Nas.   I personally can’t wait to see some videos from this show.  I haven’t seen Toni performing in a minute!  For more information about Reggae Sumfest, visit the official website.

More revealed about new Mariah music. Dissing Eminem? Perhaps!

More revealed about new Mariah music. Dissing Eminem? Perhaps!

Posted on 12 Jun 2009 at 5:47pm

Another day, another tweet!  Today, Mariah revealed more about her new songs, “Obsessed” and “H.A.T.E. U.” to the Twitterverse.  The lead single, “Obsessed,” apparently has already been remixed and is so hot that MC has it on repeat!

However, AllHipHop.com quotes producer The-Dream as saying “Mariah Carey has a record, and somebody’s going to be very upset” - implying that “Obsessed” is a diss track possibly aimed Eminem, who made several rude comments about Mariah on his new album.  Could Mariah be retaliating?  We’ll just have to wait until Tuesday to find out!

Anyway, “Obsessed” is not the only track with a remix, Mimi divulged that the slow jam “H.A.T.E. U.” also has a resung hip-hop remix that incorporates a classic sample, and a “POW rap” from an undisclosed rapper.  She also revealed two lines from the song: “I can’t wait to hate you, make you pain like I do/I can’t wait to h.a.t.e.u. ’cause right now I need you.”

I wonder what “H.A.T.E. U.” stands for?  Mariah has challenged us to tweet her our guesses. So what are you waiting for?  Tweet on! (I honestly can’t think of anything, myself, though.)  ”Hug And Tease E? U?”  Hell if I know.

The all-new DC3 Forever!

The all-new DC3 Forever!

Posted on 11 Jun 2009 at 11:11pm

Hello, and welcome to the all-new DC3 Forever! We began four years ago in July 2005, when the site’s founder, Antony, created DC3 Forever as a temporary haven for DC-Connection.net posters during downtime.  After DC-Connection permanently closed in 2006, we became the new home for thousands of Destiny’s Child fans and the #1 source for all things Beyoncé, Kelly, and Michelle.

I’m Vinny.  I have been the co-owner, administrator and webmaster of DC3 Forever since the very beginning when Antony asked me to join him four years ago.  A new addition to the DC3 Forever family is Kennard, owner and webmaster of Destiny Vault, with whom we have joined forces with to create this all-new site for you.  Get to know us!

Over the past four years, DC3 Forever has consistently gained popularity and with this all-new blog and fan community, we hope to open doors to more possibilities and bring fans together.  The site has already been visited by Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, and we hope similar opportunities occur.

In March 2008, I was granted an exclusive interview with Kelly over the phone, in which I asked questions that only true fans could come up with, providing for an insightful and personable interview.  During that interview, I gave Kelly a tour of the site, and listened as she browsed and read what her fans on our board had to say about her new song, “Love Again.”  It was an amazing experience.  In addition, Kelly recorded a special video dedicated to DC3 Forever after receiving our fanbook from Ant.  You can watch it here: Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3

Coincidently, that same month I also received a voicemail from Michelle in which she asked me to pass along a special thank you message to the fans from DC3 Forever for the birthday book we had sent her, and she informed me that she would be visiting the site.  That’s two out of the three - so now we have to work on Beyoncé!

This will probably be the only time I will ever say this but, enough about Destiny’s Child.  This blog is centered around them, yes, but it is so much more.  This is a blog about their influences, their peers, and those they’ve inspired. That means legends like Michael Jackson, divas like Mariah Carey, hit-makers like Ne-Yo, hip-hop stars (husbands) like Jay-Z, fresh talent like Chrisette Michele, and even up-and-coming underground artists, like Avon Semaj.  Yep!  All that, and so much more…

So, in the simple yet timeless words of Beyoncé… “you ready?
